I’m a fan of a lot of things: pancakes, cats, science, desserts, you get the picture. I’m a fan of a wide variety of things and I’m passionate about a lot of those things (like cats and science). But some times, my passions don’t line up with the things I actually like. For example, I’m passionate about whole grains, but it’s not always easy to like whole grains. Baking with whole grains (and ancient grains) can result in dry, bland baked goods with terrible textures. Good-for-you grains, why you so hard to love? That’s why I’ve been a huge fan of Erin over at Texanerin Baking ever since I found her blog a couple of years ago. She’s also passionate about whole grains and does a pretty amazing job at...
Gaze upon the magical goodness that is chocolate-banana milk. Actually, it’s really chocolate hazelnut banana milk, but that’s just details. Delicious details. Which leads me to the double good news about this drink. First off, it’s incredibly delicious. Somewhere between milk and a milkshake in thickness with a punch of banana flavor + chocolate. Creamy, dreamy, tastiness. Second? It has surprise curative properties . *not a doctor, not an RD, let’s just throw that out here* I’ve always found that after a late night out with friends, chocolate milk could work wonders for my brain fog. I’ll be honest, I’ve never had a hangover and I largely attribute that to my AM glass of chocolate milk on those mornings. I’ve fine tuned it over the last few years to taste...
Somehow, I managed to keep posting while on vacation, but totally let it slip once I’m back, whooops! I always seem to come back from a trip extra exhausted and needing a vacation from my vacation. I can’t imagine I’m the only one, right? Our fridge is pretty empty and our cupboards are close to bare, so I’ve been loving quick and simple foods while I’m still too lazy to go to the grocery store. If you head on over to Hannah‘s blog, you can see my idea of a tasty sweet + savory rice cake topped with a dippy egg (because do you even know me? So good.) plus 5 other creative rice cake ideas. Rice cakes are the perfect base for a snack or even a meal when...
Josh here. I know I’m usually not the one to bring you recipes, but I thought it would be fun to write something for the first time in a while. This past Valentine’s Day, we went to a fancy-ish place that happens to have a variety of interesting cocktails, including a few specialty ones for a week or so at a time. They had one that caught my eye, and after trying it, I decided we had to try our best to replicate it at home. It’s no surprise that something with whiskey (my liquor of choice), cinnamon, and a sweet wine, grabbed my attention. And I’m so glad I took a chance on something a little out of my comfort zone! This is a drink that’s sweet, but not...
We had a string of potlucks in my work group last week (TWO! In one week!) which made me look long and hard at my recipes for ones that could stand up at a potluck. To me, it’s important that a recipe be delicious, be easily reheated (or good at room temp/crock pot), and cover a wide variety of dietary restrictions. Hopefully you find something here that works for you and your family — these are all favorites for me and Josh! Can anyone resist soft pretzels? I used to love grabbing a hot buttery pretzel at the mall or eating a dozen at my sister’s in-law’s after a pretzel making party (what, you guys don’t have those?). Well, I used to. The pretzel place in my mall closed and was replaced with froyo, which is just fine but not really the same kind of snack. Plus my sister lives across the country and doesn’t come around often for pretzel parties. I’m not in on the family’s secret recipe, so it was only reasonable to make my own, right? A word of caution with these pretzels, they don’t have the shiny, chewy outside like I dream of in a pretzel. It seems like the only way to achieve that is to give...
