Hey guys. Kelly has been working on some new recipes, and is eager to post some, but I wanted to take this opportunity to talk you guys (since I’m usually pretty much just behind the scenes). I’m constantly flattered by seeing the compliments people give about our photography, and I wanted to personally thank you all for that. But I also wanted to show you that it doesn’t necessarily take a ton of expensive equipment to get decent shots of your food (or other content, for that matter!) With some pretty standard craft tools and less than $30 worth of supplies, you can improve the quality of your photos (and give yourself a great basis for further improvement). Now, I know some of the larger blogs that provide tips tend...
Poorly kept secret, I’m obsessed with barbeque sauce. I put it on everything, and it looks like that’s the direction everyone else is going in too! Everywhere I look, I see barbeque chicken pizza. It always sounds so tempting, but I don’t eat chicken. I’ve gone so far as to order a pizza with barbeque sauce and my normal veggie toppings and I always get a confused, almost angry voice on the other end of the phone. “So you want a barbeque chicken pizza… but you don’t want the chicken. Or the bacon? What?” No. I don’t think it’s weird. Thanks. Luckily, pizza is so easy to make at home and using BBQ sauce saves the step of making a tomato sauce or running to the store for a jar....
First of all, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and congrats to the winners of the Better than Bouillon giveaway! I sent out emails on Sunday, please respond by Wednesday to claim your prize. This weekend was unnecessarily stressful for me, and I’m not even sure why. I was so tired all day Sunday that I took a surprise nap and had no idea where I was when I woke up an unknown amount of time later. It took me a full minute or two to come to my senses– it was pretty terrifying! Anyone else ever have that happen before? On to much happier (and tastier) things, I’ve been seeing egg and avocado salad sandwiches all over Pinterest and even at a restaurant in my area. While I’m...
Photos updated 7/3/2014 No surprise, I’m kind of a weirdo when it comes to things I eat. When I go to cookouts and potlucks in the summer, it often happens that the only thing I can eat are the baked beans. Never being deterred by that, I’ve grown to LOVE taking thick baked beans, putting them on a hamburger or hot dog bun, and topping with mustard and onions. Call me crazy, but it’s delicious. When I eat baked beans at home, I normally just put them on a plate, but sometimes the left overs end up as a sandwich :). They can be so full of sugar and, aside from being based on something pretty nutritious, can be pretty nutritionally lacking. A common ingredient in most bean...
Anyone else love eating leftover birthday cake for breakfast? No…? Oh. Right. Not me either. While I love a good coffee cake, I’ve had some trouble perfecting them. They’re so buttery and a little crumbly, which I can’t seem to recreated without adding a ton of butter. Never one to let that get me down, I’ve moved on with my life and to this delicious apple breakfast cake. It incorporates many of the same qualities of a coffee cake (streusel layers, for one!, but there’s enough differences that I’m hesitant to call it a coffee cake. It’s delicious (and maybe even better than a lot of fatty coffee cakes I’ve tried!) but as soon as something isn’t *exactly* what you’re looking for with a certain word, it crushes your dreams...
Hey, remember those vegan chili meat balls from Friday? This sandwich is what I did with them (well, in addition to just popping them in my mouth, smashing them on toast with a slice of cheese, and throwing a few on a salad). I’ve probably said a million times already how I stopped eating meat so young, that I never tried a lot of different things. A meatball sub is one of those many things. They always look so hearty and so satisfying. I’ve made a few with more traditional meatless meatballs (and I promise to eventually post the recipe. Not sure why I haven’t yet), but I was craving something a little more inventive last week. I know you’re all so eager and have already made the meatballs 😉...
